Hey guys, Scott Asner here! Today I will be sharing my favorite coffee spots in Kansas City! 

Coffee is a social conversation starter essential, an icebreaker for any networking agenda and a great way to spend time with family and friends. So keep reading to find out where to grab a great pick-me-up in Kansas City. 

Second Best Coffee 

For espresso fans, Second Best Coffee is the best way to go. Not only do they use a Slayer Espresso Machine, they also source their beans globally and roast them locally. For any vegans out there (or anyone who likes alternative milks), Second Best’s amazing, perfectly roasted coffee beans blend beautifully with their own homemade almond milk.

Travel: Notes on Montenegro

Hey guys, Scott Asner here! Are you looking for a view filled holiday that checks all your  vacation boxes? I’ve got you covered with one of my favorite vacation spots: Montenegro. Cost effective and as rich in history as it is in beautiful landscapes, you are sure to have a good time whether you are a historian eager to widen your knowledge, an adventure junkie waiting for the next story to tell, or a family just looking make some memories.  

Enjoy the Beautiful Natural Sights of Montenegro 

In the West, Montenegro offers narrow beaches on the coast of the Adriatic sea in unison with small fishing villages dotted along the coast. If the beach is not for you, worry not. Further inland you will find stunning landscapes with rugged mountains, Fjord like Bays of Kodor and narrow beaches on the coast of the Adriatic sea. I would recommend visiting Skadar Lake which is the largest lake in the Balkans and one of the most prominent bird sanctuaries. Listen up adventure hunters, this one’s for you, if you’re up for the challenge go climb Montenegro’s highest peak Maja Kolata. Now, if you are eager to enjoy the history of the county, go take a walk through the historic part of Stari Grad and don’t forget to visit the monastery at Cetinje which is home to the mummified hand of St. John the Baptist.  

Getting Around the City 

The best way to get around without renting your own car would be by bus. Bus transport in Montenegro is cheap, safe and efficient, not to mention they also run anywhere along the coast. However, renting a car is still the best way to get around if you want to visit more remote areas.  

Delicious Food 

Montenegro cuisine derives from Yugoslavia. The traditional way of cooking is called Ispod and Kajmak (sour cream) is usually a main ingredient, as well as cow and sheep cheese. Montenegro locals are keen on eating lamb and veal rather than beef, and on the coast, fresh seafood is quite common. Catovica Mini and Stari Mini are excellent fish-based restaurants and some of the most scenic restaurants tucked away in the trees overlooking a river. Pod Volat is a meat focused restaurant with an excellent menu offering a taste into the country’s rich culture.

How To Get Active In Your Community

Hello everyone! It’s Scott Asner here! Kansas City is incredibly diverse, and I love being able to show my appreciation for the city and my community. There are so many ways that you can be an active participant and contributor to your community and if you are interested in ways to get active and give back, keep reading!  

Show Support for Local Sports Teams 

Here is an easy one for all of the sports lovers like myself: go out and show your support for your favorite local teams! You can do this by wearing team colors or merchandise on game days, as well as going out and physically attending some games to cheer the team on, which will help you bond with your fellow sports fans! As a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan, you can always find me keeping tabs on the games!  

Join a Local Class or Group 

One great way to get active in the community is to join a local class or a social group doing something that you’re passionate about. This can range in anything from a yoga class to a parent and child art group, like Thursday Toddler Time at  Ceramic Cafe in Kansas for example. Not only will this help you to show support for local groups and classes, it will also introduce you to people in your community who share your passions and interests. 

Shop Locally 

Arguably, one of the best ways to support your local community is by supporting small local businesses. Whether that be through buying a cup of coffee each Monday morning at a small local cafe, like Made In KC Cafe in Kansas City, trading or purchasing books from a local bookstore or treating yourself to a new sweater from a local clothing store, there are many ways to go out and show your support for local small business owners. 

Volunteer and Donate 

Volunteering and donating some of your resources weekly is an excellent way to get active in the local community. You could start dog walking, babysitting, volunteering at local sporting activities like a high school football game. Giving back is an essential part of any community, and if you don’t have the time to volunteer, then you can donate some resources. Clothes to the Salvation Army or local thrift shops, food to your local food bank and bed linens to your local homeless shelter are always needed.  

  

If you love your local community just as much as I do, getting involved and staying active in your community is easy! Whether you just moved to Kansas City or you’re a long-time community member, I hope this list provided you with some good ideas about staying active in your local community.

Best Sports Activities in KC

Hello all! Scott Asner here. Kansas City is a great sports town, and it’s no secret that I am a huge sports fan. I love watching games and keeping up with my favorite teams, and I like to do sports to stay active as well. If you are looking for sports entertainment around KC, keep reading. Today, I’m sharing a list of some great sports activities right here in Kansas City.

The Dugout

If you are looking for batting cages in KC, The Dugout is a solid choice. You can make a reservation for batting cages, pitching tunnels, and turf fields to practice or bring your team for drills. The Dugout has a staff of baseball and softball instructors for team classes or private lessons. If you are looking for a kid-friendly activity, The Dugout also hosts birthday parties and camp sessions.

T-Shotz

T-Shotz is an exciting, virtual driving range for all ages. Not your average driving range, T-Shotz has simulations of some of the best golf courses in the world. Even those who are not golf fans will enjoy the fun mini-game simulations! With a full menu of food and drink available, T-Shotz also makes for a great event venue for any occasion.

The Soccer Lot

For the soccer fans, The Soccer Lot has pickup games, leagues, camps, and tournaments. The Soccer Lot is known for hosting 5-a-side teams, so it’s a great way to play a game with a smaller group. With only four field players and a goalie on each side, these games, sometimes called “mini soccer” are usually more fast-paced. This location hosts events and parties, so if you’re looking for soccer activities for a group, look no further.

The College Basketball Experience

Basketball lovers will have a blast at The College Basketball Experience. Home of the College Basketball Hall of Fame, this venue is a sports fan’s dream. There are interactive games and activities, so it’s a fun time for all ages. For all things basketball, there is no better place to spend the day than The College Basketball Experience. 

Kansas Speedway

If motorsports are more your speed, you can’t miss the Kansas Speedway! It’s no wonder NASCAR is so popular in Kansas City, the races are always thrilling to watch. Anyone who loves cars and action will have a great time at the Kansas Speedway, and it’s a popular attraction for all ages. It does get loud at the track, so it is a good idea to bring ear protection, especially for kids.
